We get caught in a lightening storm's pincer movement. Two close strikes, one on port and the other on starboard, with zero seconds between the flash and thunderclap, knockout our wind instrument and AIS. Luckily, cycling the power brings them back to life.

During Bicki's first radio contact with Lock 9's master, she tells him we're 30 minutes out and asks how it looks for a lock down. He says he's got a tug in the lock, but if we can hurry up and be there in 20 minutes we'll be next. Damn the price of diesel, full speed ahead!
Flowers on the Dubuque Waterfront
It's amazing how much faster it is going downriver. Today's 84 mile run took three times longer traveling upriver. Our total is now 196 miles for the trip. Tonight Nellie is safely ensconced in the Ice Harbor in Dubuque, IA at Mississippi mile marker 579. DBH
