Day 196: Goodbye Tennessee River

Confluence of the Ohio (l) and Tennessee (r) Rivers in Paducah, Kentucky

Today was our last on the Tennessee River.  While I would have preferred to follow it to the Ohio River, the high volume of commercial traffic at the Tennessee's last lock would have all but guaranteed a long delay.  Instead we took the Barkley Canal to the Cumberland River and will instead follow it to the Ohio.

Flood Barrier between the Ohio and Paducah

Before saying our goodbyes, however, we drove the marina's courtesy van to Paducah.  Here we saw where the Tennessee ends in the Ohio.  It was also our first glimpse of the Ohio's big water.  They looked calm enough...today.

Nellie Takes Cover in Green Turtle

The unrelenting heat is taking its toll.  In fact, it's now a 'no go' item on our check list.  Fortunately, the heat spell is supposed to break on Sunday.

When a Slip is a Home Away

From the Tennessee to the Cumberland

It was a whole 7 miles on the water today to Green Turtle Bay, Kentucky.  We topped off the fuel tanks and are preparing Nellie for the slog up the Mississippi.  Now there are 3,281 miles under the keel.  DBH
