Heading East This Morning With John Island to Starboard
How do you choose an anchorage when everywhere you look there's a great one? The cruising guides aren't much help. Their lists simply go on and on. Left to our own measures we prefer a small, pond-like anchorage with a challenging approach. And, that's what we found in Leroy Cove.
Surrounded by Rock in Leroy Cove
It's high season in the North Channel. We saw more cruising boats underway today than in the past 35 days combined. That's why we weren't surprised to see someone else already in Leroy Cove. Fortunately, there's room for two and so we made ourselves at home. While taking the dinghy out to investigate the area we stopped by the neighbors to say hello. They've been cruising these waters for 30 years. Leroy Cove is their favorite anchorage.
Lilly Pads, We are Indeed in Fresh Water
Hmm, we've been cruising this area for four days. Leroy Cove is our favorite anchorage too. By my count we just saved ourselves 29 years and 361 days of searching ;-)
Leroy Cove (Upper Right). Mind the Rocks...
The North Channel may look like the Puget Sound but you gunkhole through it like the coral strewn Bahamas: keep a watch on the bow and the sun on your back. We managed, barely, to miss all the rocks in today's 29 mile run to Leroy Cove. The trip total is now 1472 miles. DBH
